Why Elden Ring Win The Game of The Year in Golden Joystick Awards 2022?

The biggest effort made by FromSoftware as developer is not easy among the rival occur on monination too like God of War Ragnarok, Stray, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Horizon Forbidden West. A lot of gamers predict the new game developed by Santa Monica as a winner Game of the Year 2022. But far from their expectation the winner Game of the Year held by the Elden Ring developed by FromSoftware.

This result, of course, gets a lot of praise from both gamers who love the game itself and other games. But for some people, there may be those who disagree that the game deserves a nomination as Game of the Year this year.

So, on this occasion we will explain the reasons why Elden Ring was able to win the nomination as Game of the Year 2022 at the TGA 2022 event. This article was created based on our own neutral opinion, which has tried both games in terms of story and gameplay.

The reasons whay elden ring win game of the Year 2022 in Golden Joystick Awards 2022

Alright, let’s start by discussing the reasons why Elden Ring won the Game of the Year nomination at the 2022 TGA event!

In terms of Elden Ring’s story, this game comes with lots of interesting lore and is synonymous with dark fantasy elements that exist in the world and its characters. Broadly speaking, the player is someone with the title Tarnished, that is someone who has been exiled from the Lands Between and has lost the clue of the majesty of Erdtree, the sacred tree in the game.

Due to a miracle, you are given the opportunity by the great power of the Elden Ring to follow the instructions given to become an Elden Lord. Tarnished must face many enemies and important figures who have extraordinary powers.

The story that I describe is only a small percentage of the entire lore story in the game. That’s just an explanation about the main character of the Player, not to mention the story about the world, characters, monsters and also the existence of a creature from the outside world called the Outer God. You can even find some of their information on items, weapons, armor and also locations that you can search for yourself in relation to the existing lore.

From the explanation above, you could say that this soulslike open world game is rich in lore where players can find and even draw their own conclusions according to their taste and understanding. Even today, the Elden Ring community still finds many interesting mysteries that add stories to their world.

Actually, from the gameplay features, Elden Ring still features the same action RPG as the predecessor game made by FromSoftware with several upgrades and also mixes the features of the Soulsborne and Sekiro games. What makes this game a little different from other FromSoftware games is that it features a very large open world and you can find lots of things in exploring.

The vast world that players can explore isn’t just for display where the developer will place lots of Side Quests, landmarks or collectible items to extend the duration of play. The open world system in this game is fully utilized by FromSoftware for players where they can find many things for themselves starting from items, weapons, NPCs and even lore without being forced by signs in the UI menu as is generally the case in open world games.

Even the vast world of Elden Ring as a gameplay feature gives players the freedom to be able to find their own tempo of the game, whether they head straight to the Main Story or go around to other areas to level up and stray into the Caelid area.

This gameplay feature can also be associated with the game’s lore. When you complete the lengthy Ranni Quest, for instance, you will discover a wealth of interesting information about the incident in which Godwyn was killed, the supporting characters, and the Ranni mission’s objectives.

That is only from Ranni’s perspective; when you complete the quests of other characters, such as Fia, you will learn the perspective of a group with different objectives. The effect of completing the Quest will also have a permanent effect on the game, particularly if you must directly or indirectly kill a character.

You could say that Elden Ring’s gameplay gives players a great deal of freedom to comprehend what is happening in Lands Between and who the important characters are. Don’t forget that, unlike most open-world games, there are no mission markers or landmarks in this game, so you can decide for yourself whether to do it or not.

Replay Value

In terms of its replayability, this game receives positive marks. As with its predecessors, Elden Ring offers New Game+ features for players who wish to replay the game with a different ending. In addition to being able to bring items, weapons, and more (with the exception of key items) to New Game+, you will face enemies with more HP, who are more aggressive, and who present more difficult challenges.

Another benefit of New Game+ is the ability to repeat mistakes intentionally or accidentally, such as killing important NPCs in previous games. It is not uncommon for players, including myself, to kill NPCs out of vengeance, such as Patches, only to discover that he has an interesting questline to follow.

This explanation makes it clear why the Elden Ring game has a high Replay Value, and why players are strongly encouraged to do so.

The distinction between Elden Ring and the other 2022 nominees for Game of the Year

Among the three factors pertaining to Story, Gameplay, and Replay Value that have already been discussed, this is, in my opinion, one of the strongest reasons why this game was able to win the nomination for Game of the Year 2022 at the TGA yesterday. On the basis of the preceding arguments, I will now explain why Elden Ring is superior to the other nominated games for Game of the Year.

God of War Ragnarok’s narrative is my favorite among the nominees for Game of the Year at TGA 2022, alongside Elden Ring. This is due to the fact that the game features an epic fantasy story about Kratos and Atreus that focuses on the relationship between parents who cannot let their children grow up. Don’t forget how Kratos tries his hardest not to become a ruthless god while Atreus calls him Ghost of Sparta.

Those are fascinating tales, especially if you have a positive relationship with your own parents. Especially if you remember how brutal Kratos was in the previous game. This aspect of the story in God of War Ragnarok is my favorite. However, the narrative and existing lore are linear. I mean linear here; the story of God of War Ragnarok will only progress in a straight line as you progress, with additional world-expanding information.

In contrast to Go of War Ragnarok, Elden Ring has extensive lore and stories. However, it will be very difficult for you to follow the story in this game if you do not read the information contained in the items, environment, and NPC dialogue.

There are numerous factors that make you question the morality of the Protagonist’s mission. Perhaps you are unsure of who is in the wrong and who is in the right among the characters and groups who wish to entrust the Lands Between world’s fate to their new Elden Lord. When you discover her lore, it is also possible that those of you who worked on Ranni’s ending will question whether or not she is a suitable waifu.

Because players are given the freedom to interpret the events that transpired in Elden Ring on their own, story elements like these are engaging to follow in depth.

Furthermore, regarding the gameplay differences between Elden Ring and the other nominated games. If you require a serious response, I will attempt to compare it to God of War: Ragnarok. But if you want a facetious response, I would compare this game to Stray.

In general, however, all of the games nominated for Game of the Year in 2022 share the same strengths. Stray with a simulation of being a cat, Horizon Forbidden West with an open world and a multitude of activities, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 with a thick JRPG, A Plague Tale: Requiem with stealth, and God of War Ragnarok with an action-adventure filled with dramatic stories.

Several nominees for Game of the Year, including Elden Ring, share a common characteristic: an open world system with multiple action RPG elements. including level, the Exp system, skills, and the Boss. Nevertheless, based on these similarities, we can determine which games can make players feel entertained by their gameplay features, regardless of whether they are happy or irritated. Clearly, the answer to this question is Elden Ring.

Behind the difficulty level assigned by FromSoftware to Elden Ring, players frequently overlook an essential aspect: learning. Elden Ring and other soulsborne games consistently teach us to learn from our mistakes. You can read, study, and level up in order to overcome challenging obstacles and continue your journey.

If you do so, you will undoubtedly overcome the obstacle. Moreover, you will feel a sense of pride because you have accomplished this feat despite countless deaths.

Actually, the other nominated games are identical to Elden Ring. Occasionally, it will be difficult to overcome challenges or obstacles in the game. The Elden Ring poses the greatest challenge to the Player, however. So it’s not surprising that I prefer Elden Ring over the other nominated games in terms of gameplay.

Replay Value

Regarding replayability, we believe the answer is obvious. Elden Ring is the best game available. As previously explained, Elden Ring’s replayability makes New Game+ a highly recommended option. Especially if you felt challenged in the previous game or made a mistake.

In fact, there are also replay values and the New Game+ feature in other games. In comparison to Elden Ring, your reasons for restarting the game from the beginning with items from the previous game are limited.

In my opinion, Elden Ring can win Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2022 for this reason. What is your opinion? Does Elden Ring merit the nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022?
