On Wednesday, Group D concludes its schedule and determines the two teams that will advance to the Round of 16. Group-leading France will face last-place Tunisia in Doha’s Education City Stadium at 10 a.m. EDT. France is a heavy favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook to win the match. The odds for France to win are -250, Tunisia is +750, and a draw is +370.
The match will be officiated by a South Pacific crew, led by referee Matthew Conger of New Zealand. The two assistants will be Mark Rule of New Zealand and Tevita Makasini of Tonga. Conger was born in the United States, but later moved to New Zealand. He officiated the 2018 World Cup match between Nigeria and Iceland in the group stage. Conger issued a yellow card to Nigeria and then awarded a penalty kick in the 83rd minute, which Iceland missed. He officiated two group stage matches at the 2016 Olympics. He received five yellow cards in the Algeria-Portugal match and three more in the Sweden-Nigeria match.
France was the first team to qualify for the Round of 16 and is now focused solely on winning its group. The French have six points after beating Australia and Denmark to take the lead. They can win the group even if they lose, depending on the result between Australia and Denmark. Tunisia is tied with Denmark at the bottom of the group with one point each. If Tunisia wins and Denmark-Australia draws, Tunisia will advance to the quarterfinals. If Tunisia wins and Denmark defeats Australia, Group D’s second-place team will be determined by a tiebreaker.
