Do you ever feel bored of someone sending you notifications?
Maybe you’d like to calm down an overbearing group chat?
You want to stop receiving WhatsApp notifications, but you don’t want to block or leave the group conversation.
Muting alerts is the solution.
If you’re not familiar with how to mute an individual or group chat and what occurs when you do, keep reading.
What Is The Best Way To Mute And Unmute On WhatsApp?
When you mute someone on WhatsApp, you are effectively muting their notifications.
This can be used for a one-on-one or group chat.
The procedure is straightforward and will prevent notifications from being sent from the muted chats.
You can mute alerts from an individual or a group chat, as well as status updates, on WhatsApp.
Individual or group chats can be muted.
A group conversation can be muted in the same way that a single chat can be muted.
The procedure is also rather quick; here’s how to go about it:
1. Long-press the person or group chat you want to mute in WhatsApp.
2. Following that, a few icons will appear at the top of your screen.
To silence alerts for the selected chat, tap the crossed-out speaker icon, which is the mute button.
3. After tapping the symbol, you’ll be able to mute the chat for one of three durations. You have the option of muting notifications for 8 hours, 1 week, or forever.
You can also choose to display notifications if you want. Tap OK once you’ve decided how long you want to mute the chat.
4. You’ve successfully muted a WhatsApp discussion. To indicate that the chat is muted, you’ll see a crossed-out speaker icon next to it.
Unmute a single or a group chat
As you can see, muting WhatsApp alerts from an individual or group discussion is simple.
It’s also simple to turn off notifications from them.
Here’s how to turn off WhatsApp conversation notifications:
1. Long-press the muted chat that you want to unmute in WhatsApp.
2. A speaker icon can be found at the top of the screen. Unmute alerts for the selected chat by tapping it. As before, you will receive notifications for this discussion.
WhatsApp Status Updates Can Be Muted
You don’t get notifications for status updates like you do for WhatsApp discussions.
They do, however, appear when you’re scrolling through your status list.
You can mute a status update on WhatsApp so that it does not appear among other status updates.
This is how you do it:
1. Long press on the contact with the status updates you don’t want to see in WhatsApp’s status section.
After that, you’ll get a pop-up window requesting you to mute the statuses of the individual in question.
To do so, select the mute option.
You won’t see the person’s status updates any more because they’ve been muted.
Instead, they’ll be toward the bottom of the page, under the Muted Updates section, where you can still see them.
WhatsApp Status Updates can now be unmuted.
It’s simple to silence WhatsApp statuses.
It’s even easier to undo. To unmute a WhatsApp story, follow these steps:
Open WhatsApp, navigate to the Status panel, and scroll down to the Muted Updates section at the bottom.
Long-press the status updates you want to unmute from here.
When you mute someone on WhatsApp, what happens?
It’s Not The Same As Muting WhatsApp Stories When It Comes To Muting WhatsApp Conversations
There are several ways to silence a WhatsApp conversation and a WhatsApp story, as you can see in the preceding sections.
You can mute someone’s WhatsApp stories without muting their conversation, and the opposite is also true.
They’ll have no idea you’ve silenced them.
WhatsApp’s muting feature is a pretty subtle one. When you mute someone’s WhatsApp notifications, they have no idea they’ve been muted.
This is because, unlike blocking, muting a person on WhatsApp only prevents them from receiving alerts on your phone.
Your information, such as status updates, profile photographs, and other information, is still visible to them.
WhatsApp contacts who have been muted can still send you messages. You can still communicate with them. Muting someone won’t make them stop calling.
As previously stated, muting a WhatsApp discussion is not the same as blocking that person.
While you will not be notified when that individual sends you a message, your phone will still ring when they call you because calls are permitted and not muffled.
