A new in-depth video on Forspoken explores the landmarks, creatures, and areas that Freya Holland will investigate.
The most recent Forspoken trailer reveals the unique creatures and locations Freya will encounter on her quest to save Athia and return home. The deep dive video depicts both the beauty and terror of Athia, from enchanted cats with wings to monstrous, terrifying beasts.
Freya Holland will have to explore the world of Athia in a new Forspoken deep dive. She will use her magic-based movement abilities to locate intriguing landmarks, pursue the Tantas’ Familiars, and investigate labyrinths inhabited by terrifying beasts in order to discover more of her powers and the secrets of Athia.
Forspoken aims to diversify the ways in which the player can earn upgrades and stat boots by requiring her to find her Cuff in multiple locations. She will discover Monuments that harness Tantas’ power and allow her to grow stronger. To harness the power of these Monuments, she must cleanse them of The Break. Some monuments will be accompanied by challenges known as Flashbacks. The Flashback monuments are repeatable challenges with letter grades that indicate how much the player can improve their performance. This video depicts the Flashback Monument as a combination of a sprint and a combat time trial that rewards Freya with Mana and other upgrade materials.
The familiars of Tantas are winged cats with magical abilities. They are located at their respective Monuments. Some Familiars appear friendly and approachable, while others are skittish and will require Freya to pursue them. One of the Familiars in the deep dive video vanished in a red mist, indicating that they may possess magical powers similar to Frey’s color-based spells.
Freya can also find Founts of Blessing, which are sacred areas that grant her additional abilities. Finding ancient literature in Athia will lead her to Spellcraft Challenges, which will increase her level of magic spells. To complete Spellcraft Challenges, it appears that players will only need to execute a limited number of parkour abilities or combat maneuvers to earn the upgrades.
Freya will face dangerous foes and a ferocious final beast while exploring the underground Locked Labyrinths. Freya will receive new equipment if she is successful in overcoming this obstacle. Freya’s downtime will consist of taking pictures of locations in Athia with her phone and giving them to the children of the village, searching for coins in chests around the world to trade for valuable items, and playing a game called Partha that will grant her temporary stat boots. These stat increases will prove useful in Combat Challenges against monstrously mutated creatures.
The variety of challenges, points of interest, and people to interact with in Athia will hopefully give the world more significance and help Forspoken tell a story that players will care about.
The release date for Forspoken on PC and PS5 is January 24, 2023.
