In Sonic Frontiers, fishing is both fun and useful because it lets you quickly get to important NPCs and gives you valuable items.

Fishing is a very useful way for players of Sonic Frontiers to acquire various items and upgrades for Sonic, among a large number of other options. Big the Cat hosts the fishing minigame, which rewards Sonic tokens for each fish caught, which can be redeemed for a variety of useful items.
In Sonic Frontiers, the open world is full of challenges and things to do that can help you improve Sonic or move the story along. Fishing is a good way to get items and power early on, and it can be a very profitable way to do so. It does, however, require players to look around the map for purple coins and fishing spots, which this guide will explain in detail.
At time of writing (09/11/2022) we have only uncovered the first of the many fishing spots accessible during the game. Once more have been found this article will be updated accordingly, but for now the guide will cover the basics of getting access to fishing on Kronos Island.
Note
How To Locate Purple Coins
Froggy prefers purple coins, so Big will lend Sonic his fishing rod in exchange for them at any of the fishing spots. You can find them in a variety of locations throughout the game world, but a good place to begin is in the immediate vicinity of the fishing spot on Kronos Island, as they can be found in the area surrounding the entrance. There are countless of them strewn across the islands, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find coins for fishing.
How To Fish

Once the player reaches a fishing location with the required number of purple coins, they can fish for 1 coin per attempt. Players must decide where to cast their line, ideally somewhere with a dense concentration of fish, and then wait for a bite. When a fish bites, press the button to attempt to reel it in.
The player must then observe the red ripple and press the button again when the white ripple is contained within the red ripple in order to successfully reel in their catch. The majority of the time, this will be a fish or valuable object that Big will exchange for tokens. Occasionally, however, valuable items such as gold cards or scrolls can be discovered, which unlock new features or allow the player to receive a free item from Big’s shop.
Location Of The Fishing Spot On Kronos Island

As seen in the image above, the first fishing spot in the game is located on the west side of Kronos Island atop a cliff overlooking the ocean. To enter the fishing area, where they will find Big the Cat, players will need a gear to unlock the gate. Big will then dissect the fishing minigame, explaining the fundamentals of catching fish and serving as a fishing mechanic tutorial.
There are many fish to catch, but players should keep a keen eye out for the Head Koco’s Scroll and the Hermit Koco’s Scroll, which unlock fast travel to the corresponding NPCs when discovered.
Sonic Frontiers is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Nintendo Switch.
