In Sonic Frontiers, players can upgrade Sonic with a variety of potent abilities, so here are a few of the best ones to grab early.

During Sonic Frontiers, players can unlock a variety of potent abilities that enhance Sonic’s combat prowess, allowing him to handle the Starfall Islands’ more formidable foes with greater ease. In this guide, players will find some of the most useful early combat skills, as well as tips and tricks for using them effectively.
Many of Sonic Frontiers’ skills are especially useful during boss battles, which require players to deal massive amounts of damage quickly, especially when the skills are chained for greater effect and damage.
Air Tactics

Air Trick is near the top of the skill tree and allows Sonic to perform aerial tricks when launching off certain ramps and other objects. It is an excellent early choice. Performing tricks generates skill shards, which Sonic can then use to unlock even more abilities, so acquiring this early allows players to amass an abundance of skill shards and gain access to the other abilities much more quickly.
Sonic Boom

Sonic Boom is an excellent early pick that allows Sonic to remain airborne while launching powerful shockwaves that deal decent damage. This makes it ideal for close-range attacks against foes whose moveset and/or fighting style make them dangerous. This item gives players an easy way to deal additional damage from a distance, and is a fantastic way to gain distance when the enemy is preparing a counterattack.
Rapid Cyloop

Quick Cyloop is a skill that is incredibly useful when facing off against many of the game’s tougher foes. So long as the Cyloop meter is blue, Sonic is able to perform a Cyloop nearly instantaneously. This is particularly dangerous because it can be used on Titan bosses during their boss fights to launch them into the air and immobilize them, leaving them vulnerable to further attacks while they are rendered helpless. (It’s also important to note that Titans frequently have ways to interrupt the Cyloop during their second phase, making this less effective during the second half of the boss fight.)
Recovery Smash

Recovery Smash, despite being at the very bottom of the skill tree and requiring 50 skill points to unlock, is an excellent addition to Sonic’s skillset, allowing him to recover from being knocked down almost immediately via a button prompt. This makes it easier for players to recover from combat damage and immediately launch a counterattack.
Sonic Frontiers is available for PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One S, and Nintendo Switch.
