[Complete Guide] Using the Map App in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet

Every Trainer who has earned at least two badges knows that the journey is equally as important as the destination. Your Rotom Phone has the ideal application for determining where you’re going and how you’ll get there. The Paldea region’s map is more important than in previous games. Instead of following a set of linear paths, you’ll interact with a dynamic app that’s full of information about where you are and what the landscape looks like. If you take the time to learn the map app’s different symbols, it will be easy to find your way around!

On your map app, Pokémon Centers, Tera Raid crystals, Pokémon Gyms, Team Star base camps, and Pokémon lairs each have their own unique icon. When you hover over icons for specific gyms, bases, and lairs, more information about the Trainer or Pokémon you will face there will be displayed. Additionally, Tera Raid icons indicate the Tera Type of the wild, crystallized Pokémon you can battle at a particular Tera Raid crystal. Once you’ve visited a significant location, a small pair of wings will indicate that you can use a Flying Taxi to quickly return there at any time. The most common Flying Taxi destinations are Pokémon Centers, but you can also fly to locations such as the Pokémon .

Using the ZR Button to zoom in on your map in specific cities or towns will also reveal a more detailed map where you can locate the exact store you wish to visit. These icons appear identical, but the names of each shop will appear, making it easier than ever to locate your next trendy haircut or fashionable accessory.

Setting a destination is the simplest way to get in the right direction when using a map and navigating to a specific icon. After closing the application, you will pivot to face your destination. However, you may not always be able to reach your destination as the Murkrow flies; keep an eye out for any landmasses or bodies of water that may stand in your way. If a route appears to be traversable with the current roaming capabilities of Koraidon or Miraidon, it’s probably fair game! And if it’s not, you might want to go back to the place after you’ve done more tasks in the other storylines.
