The new open-world design of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet breathes new life into the Pokémon series, even for longtime fans. With so much to do, you may initially feel like a Magikarp out of water, but this guide will help you get off to a good start.
Your Paldean experience begins when you enroll in a school in Mesagoza. Students are encouraged to travel the world in search of a treasure to call their own as part of the Treasure Hunt independent study project.
Upon enrollment, you will be presented with three distinct storylines, each of which branches into its own series of adventures throughout the game. Completing significant tasks in one storyline unlocks new paths, skills, and items that aid progression in the others. You are free to complete these tasks in any order you choose, but keep in mind that you may be required to complete certain aspects of one storyline before continuing with another.
Victory Road, Path of Legends, or Starfall Street?
Victory Highway
Becoming a Pokémon Champion by Challenging Gym Leaders.
Trainers who have played previous games in the Pokémon series will recognize the plot of Victory Road. The objective is to become Paldea’s newest Champion-ranked Trainer by battling Gym Leaders and acquiring Gym Badges as you travel from town to town. In addition to the prestige of being one of the best Trainers in the region, collecting these badges enables you to capture and command Pokémon of higher levels. If you want a powerful team, which you do, you’ll have to prove yourself in battle against Paldea’s most talented individuals.
The path between Pokémon Gyms in the Paldea region is less clearly defined than it was in previous games, as the open world of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet allows you to complete each challenge in (almost) any order.
The eight Gym Leaders’ Pokémon all have fixed levels that do not change relative to your team’s; therefore, you may be outclassed the first time you challenge a Gym. You should not fear avoiding a battle for which you are unprepared. You can always earn more Experience Points, perform additional tasks, and try again later. After all, training your Pokémon to face more advanced Trainers is a defining characteristic of the Pokémon franchise.
The Way of Legends
Combat Titan Pokémon and Search for the Mystical Herba!
In the Path of Legends plot, your classmate Arven will request your assistance in locating Herba Mystica. Together, you will scour the region for these legendary herbs, which are dispersed throughout. However, they are guarded by Pokémon known as Titans that are notably large and powerful. As you may have guessed, you’ll need to defeat the Titan Pokémon in battle in order to claim their condiments.
The Legendary Pokémon Koraidon (in Pokémon Scarlet) or Miraidon (in Pokémon Violet) will serve as your primary mode of transportation on your journey. In addition to gaining Arven’s favor, defeating Titan Pokémon will provide Koraidon or Miraidon with valuable new abilities. After driving a Titan from its lair, you will enjoy a celebratory sandwich made from the Herba Mystica you’ve earned. Share it with Koraidon or Miraidon to grant your Legendary Pokémon companion a new ability, such as dashing across fields, swimming across water, or gliding through the air.
With these new modes of transportation, you will be able to move around the region more quickly and reach previously inaccessible areas. Taking the time to locate a Titan Pokémon can make exploration much easier if you encounter a roadblock during your travels.
Starfall Street Confront the Mischief-Makers in Team Star!
Whether you love to hate them or hate to love them, the Pokémon series is filled with nefarious groups that take pleasure in making your life difficult. Some of these adversaries are obsessed with world dominance, while others are simply overly enthusiastic Pokémon battle fans. In the Paldea region, you will face Team Star, a group of disobedient students who have committed the most heinous crime: skipping class! If you choose to accept it, your mission during the Starfall Street plot is to teach these truants the consequences of delinquency.
Team Star’s various crews are surprisingly well-organized, and they’ve established well-defended bases throughout the region. Even more unfortunate is the fact that some of the crews have erected barricades that prevent you from entering new areas until the miscreants have learned their lesson.
To pass through one of Team Star’s barriers, or to simply advance the plot, you must raid their base and defeat a horde of opposing Pokémon within a given time limit. Instead of engaging in traditional turn-based battles against grunts, you will select three Pokémon to send out in Auto Battles against Team Star’s Pokémon that are roaming the base. During Auto Battles, your Pokémon will attack without your direct input, but you’ll still need to keep an eye on your team to ensure that no one becomes too exhausted to continue fighting.
If you defeat enough of the grunts’ Pokémon before time runs out, their leader will appear in a Starmobile, a modified vehicle. Defeat the boss in a Pokémon battle fought in turn-based fashion, and the base will collapse, opening any barricades and yielding useful items as well.
The Trip Continues…
Even if you believe you’ve completed Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, your adventure is far from over. In Paldea, there is always more to do, such as completing the region’s Pokédex, searching for elusive Shiny Pokémon, and continuing to capture, hatch, and train Pokémon to form the ideal team. You may even discover new ways to appreciate Pokémon battles.
